Meet Heidi Read

Heidi Read is the owner of Higher Ground Yoga & Movement

Heidi Read loves being an entrepreneur. Not only does she get to practice on a daily basis, but also gets to engage others in Vijnana yoga for a living. Like other local business owners, Heidi knows that it takes dedicated effort to run a successful small business, but agrees that the payoffs make the long hours and hard work worthwhile. Heidi is proud to be a part of the 100 Mile House small business community and the community in general. “I love the layers of involvement in the community,” she says. “People here really care about one another.”

While she calls yoga her number one passion, Heidi also enjoys activities like gardening and walking with her dogs. She also loves to travel, spend time with her family and curl up with a good book when she can catch a few quiet minutes.

Heidi feels the responsibility as a business owner to support local organizations. She is particularly drawn to children’s charities and continues to donate to the 100 Mile House Elementary Fruit Bowl Program, the Educo Adventure School and numerous local events and auctions.

When a local yoga instructor was moving away from the community, she encouraged her student, Heidi Read, to fill the gap she left and become a yoga instructor. Eventually the student would become the teacher, and today, a decade later, Heidi has a devoted group of practitioners of her own and a dedicated space for it. Heidi now teaches with two different certifications: a 200 hour Hatha and a three-year, 800 hour Vijnana. Also teaching in the space is Meg Gunn. Meg is a long time yoga student and has a 500 Hour Certification through SOYA yoga. You can find a list of classes towards the bottom of page.

Higher Ground Yoga and Movement offers varied schedule classes and sessions. Vijnana yoga, Heidi says, is perfect for reducing stress while gently exercising the muscles and joints. Heidi notes that yoga made a significant difference in her life and now she is passionate about helping others to find what she found.
